It’s only been about a year and a half since I discovered the exciting world of direct sales and online marketing as an entrepreneur. In that time, I’ve been exposed to information that has literally changed my life. In the network marketing industry I’ve made some of the most powerful connections of business leaders and serious entrepreneurs around the world. I’ve met people who I consider close friends and valuable allies. I know from the information we’ve shared that they feel the same way.

One of the reasons I absolutely love the network marketing industry is the sense of community I’ve seen and felt. When you get started in a home business it can be extremely lonely. In many cases not only will your friends and family offer little encouragement, they will actually tell you to “stop chasing rainbows,” or that “those types of things never work out.”

 That is why it is vital to find other people in the industry who are in the trenches, doing the work, in order to mastermind with and bounce ideas off of. It’s a good idea to find people promoting the same business or marketing system you are.  These are people other than your sponsor who you have no financial connection to.

 I’m often asked if there was one turning point in my business. For me it was when I formed my first mastermind team. To this day, I have people in that original group of marketers who I speak with several times per week. Not only is this a great way to share new ideas, but you can encourage each other to work towards your individual goals. Reassure each other that your struggles are worth-while and to keep your eyes on the bigger picture.

Live events are great places to find and network with those people. Not only can you make powerful business alliances and new friends, but you begin to feel a real sense of community. You realize that you are not alone in this business. I am extremely excited to attend in a few weeks, my second live event in my primary marketing system. Not only for the information I will acquire and what applying that information will do for my business, but for the people and the community. For the old relationships I will strengthen and the new profitable connections I will make.

This was a passage I read today in what is possibly the most inspiring book I’ve ever read. I felt compelled to write this post today after reading the 7^th decision that determines personal success in a book called, “The Travelers Gift,” by Andy Andrews. I also had the pleasure of listening to Andy Andrews on a leadership development conference call.. A call that I plan to listen to several more times after today.

We all face obstacles in our lives. And we all have choices to make on a daily basis. Those choices determine our outer worlds and the results we see in our lives. They effectively determine our very existence. They create our successes as well as our mediocrities. When we decide to persist without exception the obstacles we face become irrelevant. In fact, the very word “decide” comes from the Latin word decidere, which literally means to kill off all other options.

When a child learns to walk he/she does not say, “I’m only going to give this whole walking thing a month and if I can’t do it by then I’ll quit.” It takes the conditioned mind of an adult to make this type of statement. When you decide to do something time becomes irrelevant. You simply persist until your desired result becomes a reality.

Nothing worth doing will ever come easy. And when you reach your desired result the victory will be even greater knowing the challenges you overcame to get there. I’m sure your facing some challenges in your life right now, and you are faced with some difficult decisions. Stay the course. Persist without exception. I promise you will eventually make it to the top of the mountain. God Speed..

If you write a blog, the bad news is you have millions of competitors.

The good news is most of them suck.

The same problems come up again and again, keeping bloggers from building a real audience for what they have to say. So how about you? Do you commit one of these seven deadly sins with your content?

1. Selfishness

This is the big one.

Here’s how making money with social media works:

You give away information of value. Maybe it solves an important problem. Maybe it makes people laugh. Maybe it makes life a little less boring to millions who are getting through a day of cubicle hell. Whatever.

You give. And then tomorrow, you give some more. And the next day, you give more.

After a heck of a lot of giving, you make a terrific offer and you get to ask for something in return. And a small fraction of your audience will respond.

How can this possibly work? Because if what you give is valuable enough, it will attract lots and lots of people. It’s roughly the same amount of work to give terrific content to a million users as it is to share it with one.

But to each individual reader, you’re giving much more than you’re asking for.

This is why so many “get rich quick” schemes don’t work, and why they’re particularly ill-suited to social media. They’re about taking. They’re not about giving.

2. Sloth

Here’s why I don’t do much social media and content marketing consulting any more.

The 1,000th time I heard a client say, “But that sounds like a lot of work,” my brain exploded.

You know what’s a lot of work? Running a bricks and mortar business. 12 hour days, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Maybe after a couple of successful years you’ll let yourself take a weekend off.

By contrast, running a content-based business is a lot of fun, with wonderfully low overhead, few to no employees, not much stress (by comparison, anyway), and yes, less work.

Not no work. Less work.

3. Impatience

I don’t think there’s a blogger in the world (ok, except Leo) who hasn’t been frustrated at the three- or six-month mark when things just aren’t moving as fast as we want.

It takes some time to build an audience, and momentum is your friend. Most of us don’t take off like rockets. We build slowly at first, then the snowball starts to grow.

If you’re not finding the audience you want yet, ask yourself:

• Is my topic actually interesting to someone other than my mom and my cat?
• Do I give my readers more than I ask to receive from them?
• Am I working on cultivating a network of like-minded bloggers, and supporting their work as much as I hope they’ll support mine?

If the answers are yes, you’ll need to cultivate a little patience. Maybe even a good dose of stubbornness. Trust me, I know it isn’t easy. Read The Dip to keep yourself motivated while you get there.

4. Lameness

Blogging isn’t like traditional advertising, where you spend more money to reach more eyeballs. In social media marketing, the currency you pay is being totally amazing.

If your content is lame, you don’t find an audience and your message doesn’t get through. If your content is fantastic, you’ll find a nice-sized audience who love what you have to say. Many of those folks will be happy to give you additional money to get more of what you offer, whether in the form of an ebook, consulting time, a comprehensive membership site, or just a snazzy t-shirt.

To paraphrase the sales and motivational speaker Zig Ziglar, lame bloggers have skinny kids.

5. Identicality

Some may disagree, but I think it’s totally fine to start your blog wanting to be someone else. That might be because I started my first blog wanting to be Seth Godin.

I didn’t become Seth (the hairstyle wouldn’t suit me anyway), but I did find a wonderful audience and a niche in which I could make real contributions.

It’s great to be inspired by a big blogger. But in order to create your own audience and your own place in the blogging world, you’re going to have to find your own voice.

Why not instead be:

• Weirder than Dooce
• Godin with a Potty Mouth
• Marketing Profs for Hippies

Maybe you’re Problogger for drag queens, or the Chris Brogan of healthcare.

Be inspired by others, but find your own place.

Interestingly, that place is often defined by the people you serve. Think more about them.

6. Irrelevance

It’s lovely to put your heart into your content, to infuse it with your personality, to come across as a real and likeable human being.

The game still ain’t about you, baby.

Some people are naturally attracted to topics that other people care about. Others aren’t. Don’t try to sell broccoli ice cream, even if that’s your favorite.

7. Boorishness

Boorishness usually comes from one of the other deadly sins. Selfishness being the most common.

You know that guy at the party who just refuses to shut up? The one who lectures you for 45 minutes about his Warcraft collectible figurines, without ever noticing that you’re desperately wishing you had a cyanide pill so you could quietly end it all?

Don’t be that guy.

The SEO Networker Official Review- For the past few weeks I’ve been inundated with information on SEO (search engine optimization) by a couple of rocket scientists. No joke.. These guys are actually rocket scientists. And they’re trying to explain that you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to understand effective SEO. Easy for them to say, right?

traffic, but only has 20,000 search results. 

1.)    Write an article. Use the keyword in the title and 3-4 times in the body of the article. This will be easy to do with some keywords and difficult with others as some keywords make no sense at all. I.E. “Internet Marketing mlm home business,” which is an actual keyword that gets searched.

2.)    Make a video talking about how Liberty League International is a great company but it lacks the online marketing training necessary to succeed in the new world of Internet network marketing. You will show them how to access that training they need. Submit it to youtube.

3.)    Make  a lens on http://squidoo.com. Make sure to name the lens “Liberty League International review” or whatever keyword you choose.  If someone has already used that keyword in a lens title, use a variation. It would look like this

www.squidoo.com/liberty_league_international_review www.squidoo.com/libertyleagueinternationalreview

 Build your lens around your article and your video. Use the exact same article in the text of your lens to save time. You don’t need to make original content since you’ve already written the article. Put your video in your lens.

4.)    Lets say the squidoo lens is the site you are trying to get ranked on google. Submit the content to other content sharing sites and put a link back to your squidoo lens. The more pages you have that link back to that site the better. Make pages on

http://Scribd.com 
http://hubpages.com 
http://zimbio.com

and other content sharing sites. Title all of your pages with your keyword. Make sure they all link back to your squidoo page. (More content sharing resources in your MLSP bak office)

5.)    Bookmark your squidoo page to 
             http://Digg.com 
             http://Delicious.com
             http://Stubmbleupon.com 
             http://Redditt.com 
             http://Propeller.com
             
             You can bookmark it to multiple locations using services like
              http://OnlyWire.com and 
              http://SocialMarker.com

 
6.)    Submit your video to http://trafficgeyser.com. If you don’t have traffic geyser, use http://Tubemogul.com. TM does not have the same power TG does but its good and it’s FREE. 
  

Again, give it the same name with your keyword in the title. Link this back to your squidoo page as well.

You can change the file sizes and submit the same video again. I believe you can submit the same video 3, 4 even 5 times with different file sizes. This just gives your link more credibility as it is more locations.

By this point you have between 30 and 100 sites (all with the same title containing your keyword)  that link back to your squidoo page (which also contains that keyword. Google sees it as “high priority content” and ranks it high.

You can go even further by putting your lens on facebook and Tweeting that you have just created new content. Put your article and your video in your blog. Ask your friends and group members to rate your lens. The more ratings and comments it has the higher it will rank. Maybe they can even bookmark it for you which will give your new creation even more credibility.

This can obviously be somewhat of a time consuming process. It will be well worth it if you find the right keyword. If you get good at this process you will soon be able to outsource this procedure and put your energy in other money making activities.
